Early Life
Morgan Wallen was born in Sneedville, Tennessee on May 13, 1993. He grew up influenced by country music and gospel music. As a child, he enjoyed singing at his local church. He later taught himself to play guitar and began writing his own songs as a teenager.
Musical Career
After graduating high school, Morgan Wallen moved to Nashville to pursue a career in music. He started out writing songs and performing at local bars. In 2014, he competed on the sixth season of The Voice, drawing the attention of wider audiences. After his time on The Voice, Morgan signed with Panacea Records and released his first EP Stand Alone in 2015.
Breakout Success
Morgan Wallen gained more momentum with his 2018 debut album If I Know Me. The lead single “Up Down” became a country radio hit and helped establish Morgan as an up-and-coming star in the genre. However, his career really took off with his smash hit 2020 album Dangerous: The Double Album. It spent 10 consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart, shattering records for a country album. Major hits like “7 Summers” and “More Than My Hometown” propelled Morgan into mainstream popularity.
Controversies
While reaching new heights of fame, Morgan Wallen has also been at the center of some controversies. In 2021, a video surfaced showing Morgan using a racial slur. As a result, he was suspended from his record label and had radio play pulled for some time. However, Morgan issued apologies and pledged donations to Black-led organizations. He has since returned to touring and releasing music.
